Coping with grief following a death is more than enough for anyone to deal with.

So we assist our clients at this time by relieving them of the added stress of handling the many tasks that simply must be completed before a funeral. Because we believe that funerals are personal, and should be tailored to the individual, we listen carefully to what our clients require and do everything possible to make it happen. Modern funerals have become more complex, but, at Clarke Family Funerals our team are experts at making the complex appear simple, and can provide every detail that our clients specify from a celebrant, flowers and newspaper notices, to catering, memorial cards and PowerPoint displays. Whatever your requirements we will endeavor to make it happen.

We also make a point of walking every one of our clients through the process of arranging a funeral in a calm and casual manner. Most have had little or no experience in this area, so we explain things as we go and ensure that we are available to answer each and every question. We do encourage people to tell us exactly the arrangements they want, and then go out of our way to make those arrangements happen – as requested. As we are family funeral directors you can be assured of “our family caring for your family at a moment of greatest need”.

Here are some helpful things you might like to do or consider before we meet with you.

Family registration information.

When meeting with you we will seek information to register the death with Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The Marriage or Birth Certificates are useful documents for this purpose. Information such as any children’s date of birth are also required.

Check the will.

This often contains final instructions regarding the funeral. You might also advise the solicitor or executor if you have not already done so.

Start thinking about the funeral.

We will ask you to make a number of decisions in a short space of time when arranging the funeral, all at a time when you are stressed and vulnerable. Additionally, apart from a few legal requirements there are no real rules for contemporary funeral services, and a lot of what happens depends on personal choice. It is often easier if you have thought ahead. Hence, you might consider the following:

1. Where and when will the service be?
2. The type of service - public or private, traditional or contemporary?
3. Will there be refreshments after the services or a wake?
4. Who will officiate – civil celebrant, funeral celebrant or minister?
5. Does anyone wish to view?
6. Does anyone have any special requests?

Activities like finding clothing for dressing the deceased, or photographs for service sheets or DVD tributes, or starting to word a notice for the newspaper could also be started before we arrive, if you feel up to it. These tasks can also be easily delegated to those wanting to help, but not knowing how to.

Take a break when you can.

The funeral process is exhausting and chances are you will already be tired and stressed, especially if you have been involved in care-giving activities during the final stages of life. With any of the suggestions we have made, only do what you feel you can cope with. We are here to take care of everything for you, and will step you through and support you in this process.
